During the COVID Quarantine my family and I have been indulging in quite a bit of video binging, taking advantage of all our streaming services from Disney+ to Netflix. Naturally, when Disney made Frozen II an early release, my 7 and 2 year old daughters were all over that. Thus began the Frozen Eicher Repeat Adventure Part II in our house.

But while Frozen is on replay in the background, my mind is still spinning on travel. As a Travel Advisor and Marketing Coach, I can’t help but constantly be turning my wheels.

Strategy. Strategy. Strategy.

What to do next?

Where do we go from here?

How do I know what the right thing is?

And what the heck is even going on?

So I’m indulging in a little fun today and going to let our Frozen friends impart some wisdom here.

Olaf – When I Am Older

This. This right here. This is for all you lovely newbies in our industry.

The ones that started in the Fall of 2019 or the Winter of 2020. And then all hell broke loose. People are losing their minds. You are fairly unscathed, because you were still in training mode. But it’s easy to take on the fears of those more seasoned, and then be a little confused. It’s also easy to second guess your decision to enter the industry in the first place.

It’s normal.

And when you’re older all of this will make a little more sense.

The important thing to remember here is to not get wrapped up in the fear mongering and anxiety of things that aren’t affecting you quite yet. It will mean a slower start to the season. But you are literally learning by trial by fire.

“Growing up means adapting.

Puzzling at your world and your place.

When I’m more mature

I’ll feel totally secure./…./

So there’s no need to be terrified or tense”

As you have more footing in this industry, you’ll understand and be able to empathize a bit more to the strains that everyone is going through. But in the meantime, no need to be terrified or tense.  Roll with the punches. Soak up all the wisdom of those that have gone before you.

Then let’s all work together to make the industry changes needed to make this all a little better. We will need your enthusiasm and new ideas. Don’t go anywhere.

Anna – The Next Right Thing

This one is for those of you in the thick of it. You started the year on fire. Your business had finally taken off. You were finding rhythm. All the hard work and the tracks you had laid in the previous years – it was finally paying off. And then – BOOM.

It can take years in some cases to plan a vacation. It only takes a matter of days to unravel it.

“I’ve seen dark before, but not like this”

Yeah. Us too.

This is a completely unprecedented time in our industry.

Many of us are having to ask hard questions. Do we continue on? Do we succumb and close up shop forever? How do you even plan for a future now?

Just do the next right thing.

And then what do you do next?

“When it’s clear that everything will never be the same again?

Make the choice to hear that voice and do the next right thing.”

It’s all we can do right now. With an onslaught of ever changing news, timelines, reopening guidelines we are all feeling overwhelmed right now. The only thing you can do is take every day and every decision one at a time. Don’t overly project. Don’t overthink. Don’t fly through every possible what-if scenario. Don’t outline a 10 page plan for a traveler to go to China if you have only ever planned travel to the Carribean. Simplify the noise. Take every decision one traveler, and one trip at a time. And just do the right thing.

Elsa – Show Yourself

You have to find your power again!

This season was a blow to not just our bottom line, but our egos as well. We’ve been beaten up by suppliers, clients, and in some cases our own colleagues. The industry went through an onslaught and right now you are left to pick up the pieces.

It’s hard to feel like the Queen of your kingdom if you don’t have confidence in your abilities as an advisor or an agent.

Time to “Show Yourself” and step into your power.

“You are the one you’ve been waiting for all of your life.”

You are here for a reason. You have skills that are unique to only you. You have gifts to give this industry. It’s time to remember what those gifts are and step into your powers.

After all, you’ve come so far. Don’t give up now.

Maybe it’s time to “throw yourself into something new.” Time to really lean into your niche and stand out as the expert we all know you to be.

Either way know that you are the key to everything. And (though maybe it’s a little more Dorothy from Wizard of Oz instead of Frozen), you had the magic inside you all along.

It’s a gift, not a curse. You just need to learn how to harness your magic and focus it into the right areas.

Finally, are you still reeling from the loss? Well then, you have to just “Let it go.”

Sorry…. I couldn’t resist.

I promise. I am finished now. I hope you can begin to see that all of this in our industry will naturally progress the way it needs to be. That doesn’t make it any less hard, or a struggle. The key thing to remember is that it’s not hard because you are doing something wrong. It’s hard because it really is that hard.

Until next time, happy wanderlusting!
