When it comes to planning vacations, many people look at international destinations or domestic travel options outside of their home state. With the current COVID 19 pandemic affecting travel, planning a memorable vacation seems impossible. This is why staycations are the perfect choice! They are an affordable way for you and your family to get away while also exploring hidden gems located in your own backyard. My family and I recently had a staycation and I wanted to share our experience of staying in a hotel during a pandemic to show you there are safe options out there that might be the answer to your cabin fever this summer.
After being quarantined in our home for over two months, my family and I were craving a mini getaway. We knew we wouldn’t be able to travel far due to the travel restrictions so we decided to look at our options near our home in San Antonio. I came across a post on Instagram from the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa stating that they would be opening back up May 21, 2020! They were actually the first resort in Texas to open after the pandemic. We had already stayed at their property a few months prior and fell in love so we knew this would be the perfect getaway. I immediately went online and booked a two-night stay with check-in for their opening day.
This luxury property is nestled in a secluded area surrounded by luscious greenery in scenic Texas Hill Country. With a five-acre water park that includes a 22-foot waterslide, lazy river, two pools, and a FlowRider wave machine, there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy! It even has its own 27-Hole championship golf course located right on the property! There is also a spa as well as several amazing dining options so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your stay without having to step foot off the resort!
Sounds amazing right?
When we walked into the lobby, we were happily greeted by the staff and were told that we were the first people to check in after being closed for over two months! I noticed that plexiglass was installed at the front desk, all employees were wearing masks, and there were multiple locations with hand sanitizer throughout the property. Check-in was smooth and every single staff member we encountered was so attentive and sweet. They treated us like family and it definitely made us feel welcomed.
Is it safe to stay in a hotel right now?
I was amazed at all of the safety measures that were in place all through the resort. I noticed that hand sanitizer was placed all throughout the property and employees were frequently disinfecting tubes, chairs, and bicycles between each use. Physical distancing was promoted through signage displayed across the entire resort and by pool chairs arranged in groups of 4 with 6 feet between each group. With all of the safety measures being taken, we felt very safe and comfortable during our entire staycation.
Our room was beautiful, clean, and located on the first floor which I highly recommend if you are traveling with little ones. The rooms on the first floor have sliding doors that lead directly to the property grounds which is convenient whenever you want to head to the pool or grab a bite to eat. After a long day of swimming and soaking up the sun, we were able to walk straight into our room without having to dragged our exhausted children through the halls and up the elevators.
During our stay, we took advantage of the variety of activities the property offered for families. On scheduled mornings, you can meet by the Tree of Life and feed friendly squirrels, ducks, and other little wildlife. You can sign out their new Priority bicycles that you can use to cruise around and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. One of our favorite activities that we enjoyed as a family is roasting our marshmallows by the firepit and making the S’mores they offered each evening.
So, if you’re looking for your next staycation property in San Antonio, Texas, be sure to put Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa at the top of your list! It is your one stop property for fun, family, and relaxation!
