Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the Novel Coronavirus is taking over the news cycles these days. Because of the worldwide fear and travel advisories, the travel industry is scrambling to find its footing during what is supposed to be the busiest time of the year.  

So what is a travel advisor supposed to do during all of this?

How to Take Care of Your Travel Business during the Coronavirus:

  1. Remember your values. As a business owner you should have, as part of your business plan, a mission statement or a set of values that help guide you through your decisions. Things like: 
    • I am here to serve my clients. 
    • I put aside my own personal opinions and take care of the wishes of my clients. 
    • I put my clients safety and personal happiness above all else.

Why is this important? Because when you are advising clients you need to know that you are doing it from a place rooted in your values and not rooted in fear of your bottom line. This, above all else, will ensure your longevity in the travel business. 

2. Now is the time to diversify your skills.  I went live in our Travel Agent Training and Mentorship Facebook Group regarding this last week. But I’ll summarize here: If you specialize in only Italy, you are probably hurting right now. Now may be the time to look into another specialty or to see if you can be of service in other destinations.  Focus your niche on your ideal client, not on a destination. 

3. Make good use of this slow time.  Being slow when you are supposed to be busy is always unsettling.  But remember: this too shall pass. And when it does, your business will be rocking and rolling, albeit a few months behind schedule. So what should you do to prepare?

  • Get caught up on all those courses you signed up for and haven’t finished yet. Yes – we know all about those. Been there. Done that. Finish up. No excuses.
  • Get a head start on writing your weekly ezine. Yes – weekly. Client relationships are so important right now. In fact, they are probably more important than ever. Make sure you have weekly touch points with your clients so that they know that you didn’t fold during the Coronavirus crisis. And now is a perfect time to schedule your emails out ahead of time. And speaking of client relationships….
  • Reach out to your clients with a hand written note. Does anyone have a birthday or an anniversary coming up? Maybe they have a major milestone to prepare for at the end of this year or the beginning of 2021? Reach out and see if you can offer travel services to areas that are not being affected by the virus. 
  • Catch up on your blog posts. Repurpose content from your ezines and start to schedule them out. Again, this is about showing up consistently for your audience so they know you are still here, keeping the lights on.
